Digital Door Lock Installation: What to Expect on Installation Day

A smart lock is only as good as its fitting. A lock that is a few millimetres out will not latch properly, will drain its batteries and will frustrate everyone at home. That is why every OTODOR door lock is installed by our own technicians. Here is what happens, step by step.

Before the visit: the compatibility check

We confirm your door is compatible before you pay. Send us a photo of the door from both sides and, if you can, its thickness. Our face-recognition locks fit wooden doors from 45 to 100 mm thick, and ZEAL fits 30 to 60 mm doors. If something does not suit your door, we will tell you before installation day, not after.

Step 1: checking the door

The technician checks that the door closes cleanly, the hinges are firm and the frame is square. A door that drags or sags is fixed or flagged first, because no lock works well on a door that does not close properly.

Step 2: marking and cutting

The lock comes with a template. The technician marks the door, then cuts the openings for the lock body, the handles and the strike plate in the frame. This is the step that most needs experience.

Step 3: fitting and testing

The outer and inner panels are fitted, the cable is routed through the door, and the batteries go in. The technician then tests the latch and the bolts many times, with the door open and closed, until everything runs smoothly.

The inside panel holds the batteries and the controls.

Step 4: enrolling your family

We set up the admin user, then enrol each family member: fingerprints, faces on face-recognition models, and RFID cards. We recommend enrolling two fingers per person, in case one is cut or dry.

Step 5: the handover

  • How to add and delete users.
  • Where the mechanical key is and when to use it.
  • How to use the emergency power port with a power bank.
  • How to check and change or charge the batteries.
  • Who to call if anything feels wrong.

How long does it take?

A straightforward installation usually takes a few hours. Older doors that need adjustment can take longer.

After installation

Our door locks carry a 3-year warranty on the lock and 1 year on the battery. If anything goes wrong, message us and we will sort it out.
