Hotel Door Lock Systems: A Practical Guide to RFID Keycard Locks
Share
The keycard has become the standard for hotel rooms because it solves the oldest problem in hospitality: keys that walk away with guests. With RFID keycard locks, the front desk issues a card for a room and a stay, and cancels it when the guest leaves. This guide explains how these systems work and how to plan a fit-out.

How an RFID keycard lock works
Each room has a battery-powered lock with a card reader. The guest taps their card and, if the card is valid for that room, the lock opens. Cards are issued and cancelled at the front desk, so a lost card is a minor inconvenience instead of a security problem.
Why hotels and PGs switch
- No lost keys: cancel a card in seconds and issue a new one.
- Cleaner operations: housekeeping and management can have their own cards.
- Better guest experience: a card fits in a wallet and feels modern.
- Works in power cuts: each lock runs on its own batteries.

Planning a fit-out: a checklist
- Count the doors: guest rooms, staff rooms, store rooms and any common doors.
- Check the doors: material, thickness and how they open. Our technicians confirm this on site.
- Decide who gets which card: guests, housekeeping, managers.
- Plan the schedule: fitting can be done in phases so rooms stay sellable.
- Plan maintenance: a battery check every few months avoids surprises.
Beyond the room door
A property is more than its room doors. Hotels often add a boom barrier for the car park and automatic gates at the entrance, so arrivals feel smooth from the road to the room. We supply and install both.
Frequently asked questions

In most cases, yes, if the doors are in good condition. We check every door before quoting.
How long does a fit-out take?
